In Aligarh’s Uparkot police station, on 8 December last year, 2023, a woman lost her life due to a pistol fired by a sub-inspector. Now in Gabhana also, the sub-inspector himself got injured and a constable lost his life due to a bullet fired by the sub-inspector. These incidents are examples of raising questions on the lack of weapon handling training (Sikhlai in police language) of the police.

Every week on Friday, similar training is given during the parade in the police line. In the annual firing, detailed knowledge is given on all these things. Despite this, these incidents are happening, which in itself is raising questions on the system. The question is how long will this kind of loss of life continue.

The incident of Uparkot police station of Aligarh district is not very old. The inspector was standing in the Munshiyana with his service pistol and checking it. Then a bullet was fired and a woman who had come there for passport verification died. The inspector had to go to jail. It is a different matter that the case was settled in a few months on the basis of compromise.

Now a similar incident of mishandling happened in Gabhana. This time a policeman himself lost his life and one got injured. Why is all this happening? No one is paying attention to this. How long will lives keep getting lost like this? If there is any deficiency in training then pay attention to it. How long will such incidents keep happening from putting the cartridge in the pistol to checking it.
